MULI
LANGUAGE SCHOOL
Joseph
Rock first explored Muli, located in South East Tibet, in
1924. He referred to it as the real Shangri-La. It is a
matriarchal society that was called the Kingdom of Women.
The population of 122,112 is composed of 39,025 Tibetans.
The area has 77.02% Tibetans and other ethnic minorities
and 23% Chinese. The Chinese have schools in the area but
do not teach English or Tibetan language. It is difficult
to find employment upon graduation.
Because
of the increase of tourism it is important for the people
to speak English to meet these new demands and it would
benefit the economic development of the area. Also it is
important for the welfare of the Tibetans to learn their
own language in order to preserve their rich cultural heritage

This
school would be available to all people of Muli and the
outlying areas at no cost. It will be necessary to provide
dorms and food for the students that are not in the immediate
area.
The project will be based on current land costs, building
supplies, labor, staffing and school supplest. Lama Nurbo
is investing the costs and a cost analysis will be created.
It may be possible to receive some support from the local
government.
